Is it time to switch from Plan F to Plan G?
If you have a Plan F Medicare Supplement you no doubt appreciate the strength of the coverage you have and the freedom to see providers of your choosing. But is it time to consider a Plan G Medicare Supplement?
The Plan G Medicare Supplement provides all the same great Medicare benefits and choice of providers after you meet the small annual Part B deductible, $226 in 2023.
Reasons to Switch to Plan G
There are several reasons it may be time to switch to a Plan G:
The math makes sense
The premium savings by moving from Plan F to Plan G is almost always more than the Part B deductible so you come out ahead even after paying the Part B deductible.
Plan F rates are going up faster than Plan G rates.
Younger people coming into Medicare can’t buy a Plan F so the younger people with lower medical claims are going into Plan G and not Plan F.
Maintain Provider Choice
You get the same choice of providers with Plan G that you get with Plan F so you can keep all your same doctors.
Excess Charges
Plan G pays “excess charges” if you see a provider who treats Medicare patients but doesn’t accept Medicare Assignment. These providers can charge you up to 15% more than the Medicare “allowed amount.” Plan G pays these excess charges.
Foreign Travel
Plan G pays up to $50,000 for emergency treatment while you’re out of the country just like the Plan F.
Is Plan G right for you?
Now is the time to look at Plan G, you can still have amazingly strong medical coverage and choice of providers but with a sufficiently lower rate to more than cover the annual Part B deductible.
